In this section you will learn about culture and the role it plays in site design and a site doing well. This section will mention such aspects as Site Structure, User Based Design Process and Layout. If you are not sure what each of these mean then please click the linked words as they will take you to the page that tells you all about that bit of jargon.

If you read this and are worried that your site is not quite right then send your site to the Website Doctor, Dr Purple Head SEO Hons, by clicking here. He can help.

Cultural impact of site design

When making a site there are all the considerations that have been mentioned in the Site Structure section and in the User Based Design Process section.

There is much to understand when building a site. This is vital when you are conducting creative work for any client. Also making sure that this is part of you knowledge will even help you rankings on the search engines.

You have to consider that in the world-wide-web there are many cultures and sub-cultures that exist. Even if your site is aiming at a narrow market it can still include different cultures.

HybridLab is a good example of culture and the way it effects design. To read more about HybridLab and HybridLabs culture click HybridLab. Or, just choose from the examples in the culture section. You can also read about work on HybridLab in the creative work section here.

Color

The colors liked by different cultures are well documented. However, their application in site design is less understood or perhaps even appreciated. Color can play a huge part and studies have shown that even the color Grey can be perceived as inexpensive by the far east and expensive in the west (in the example China and US in order).

Global culture

An important part here is to look at work by Geert Hofstede. He is well known for looking at cultural dimensions and there existence per country. Please click on the link to read more about his work. For this site its best to concentrate on the key aspects of his work and their effect on website layout, structure and creative feel. These are:

High vs Low context cultures

Masculinity vs femininity

Individualism vs collectivism

Power distance

Universalism vs particularism
