Copy

Good copy is what makes a great site. Well written copy will make users like your site and perhaps even link to it. Good copy and creative copy can make your site very viral (click here to see why).

When writing the web copy it's vital that you understand the culture that are most likely to read it. This is where being creative can be misinterpreted. Being creative in the world of copy does not mean jargon cluttered text and misused words. If such jargon like words have to be there then you should have a FAQ or Glossary page to help the user understand what you are talking about.

You must make sure that you focus on the visitors and nothing else. Yes, you have to make sure that the copy considers the needs of search engines and keywords but don't let this get in the way of the users. The structure of the site should be well understood so that the copy is all in the right place and the right order. You should also use lists and bullet points.

Key areas of web copy are the following:

- Avoid hyping up

Don't just use tricky terms to make something sound like what it is not - or even more complex than it needs to be. Write what is right and what is needed. It's always worth having a look at blogs etc that are dedicated to the subject the site your writing for is about. By doing this you can then get an idea of tone and vibe of the sector your writing in.

More copy to come...
